60 million new photos are shared every day on Instagram.
One of the ways you can help your business stand out on this image based platform is by making the most out of the size capabilities that Instagram allows for your images.
Here’s a basic Instagram image guide for your small business.
Blow your pictures out to 1080px.
Aigers did a great job explaining the transition of Instagram image sizes in his post. In short, Instagram increased the image size limits in July 2015 from 640px all the way to 1080px. Here’s how Aigers breaks that down in square, vertical, and horizontal images:
Square Image: 1080px in width by 1080px in height
Vertical Image: 1080px in width by 1350px in height
Horizontal Image: 1080px in width by 566px in height
Your profile image will show as a circle.
Instagram’s mobile app edits your profile image to a circle. That means you need to keep all the important text or image details centered on your profile image so that it doesn’t get cut off. The web app for Instagram displays it a square, but the majority of Instagram users access it on their mobile devices.
People can steal your photos.
Just an FYI. Photographer David Coleman shares some helpful insight in this post, but the unfortunate reality is that people can easily steal your photos. It’s important to stay up to date on Instagram’s terms of use, which provide guidelines for how to report copyright infringement.
